Trouble the Dutch Blue Lovebird Newest Escapades

March '01 - Trouble is quite a sweet looking little lady lovebird. Each day especially when she's been more than unusually nesty, she spends most of the time busily cutting her paper strips...tucking an array into her rump feathers & then with one in her beak, up to her cage she flies with paper strips falling aside. Into her furry little polar fleece sleep tunnel, she hustles & works hard at trying to chew up the strips & push the little pieces into the walls of her tunnel...

At the end of each day, I spend a certain amount of time on hands & knees picking up all those strips....tossing them into a basket that sits nearby...& each time that the basket nears full, I throw them out & we start over again.

So here's Trouble & here's all those strips!

April '01 - Trouble has been quite nesty lately....looking for little spots to hide & one of her favorite places has been under the newspaper spread on the floor below Jardy's playrack. The newspaper no longer lays flat & soon after I lay a fresh sheet there, it develops an accommodating hilly look for it's small blue inhabitant. Occasionally I hear the sound of a little beak hitting the newspaper as Trouble defends her special spot from imaginary trespassers.

As a result, her forehead is no longer a pretty light orange color, but rather the tinge of printers black ink....just a temporary change, but very noticeable.

My daughter Chris helped Trouble show off her new color.

January '02 - Just a little tale of Trouble & her nest building activities. Sometime last summer she abandoned her efforts to turn her fleece sleeping tunnel into a nest, carrying strips of paper instead to the grate in her cage & stuffing the pieces thru the bars.

This past week I haven't been able to do one of my periodic cleanups so she managed to stuff quite a remarkable amount of paper into her grate & there was starting to be a real buildup above the grate.

So I finally took the cage apart yesterday & had to capture her efforts in picture. I even took a picture of the grate from the side to show how she'd pushed the paper thru the bars.

I'd put Trouble in another room behind a closed door so she couldn't witness any of this so when I let her out, her cage was right back where it was supposed to be, but a nice clean grate & no paper strips.

She went to the cage, sat on her perch outside & looked inside....went inside & stood for awhile then came outside & sat on the perch again. Finally she flew over to me & cuddled up to my neck for a long time.

So I felt mean & sad that she was depressed about losing all that nesting material. Of course, once her hour was up, she was back to making paper strips & taking them back to her cage.

She's already got quite a few strips chewed up & pushed thru the grate.

I have no idea how she manages to stay overweight when she works so hard all the time making those strips & flying them back to her cage. Off she goes with a couple of strips in her tail & one in her beak.

Here is a pic with just a caption instead of a whole story, from December '01 - Trouble standing by the toaster....looking ever so sweet & enjoying her little cave spot.

Trouble is here on my neck right now....stuck in tight under my hair and fast asleep. Last night we were on the computer late....my little sleeping Trouble clinging to my waist band & me. I was loading in some pictures of Blackie bathing & went into the living room to watch a little t.v. while that was happening. Trouble started to move around a bit so I took her out for a potty break.

She was so absolutely beautiful; all limp & fluffy that I had to keep her out a bit & get a couple of pictures....well, more than a couple, but it was easy to do. Here are some pictures of the angel....yet again. I loved looking at the brush stroke look on the grey feathering on the head shot so cropped that picture so I could show that effect which isn't as noticeable on the large picture. Enjoy my little girl.
