Blackie the Green Cheek Conure

Blackie, a quiet green cheek conure followed Trouble. He would live his whole life on a shoulder or cuddled in a hand if he could. He tries so hard to please his humans.

Blackie's tail is such a beautifully laid out array of feather layers.

Green cheek conures are nicknamed the Ice Cream Cone Birds....because they love being held just like an ice cream cone...Blackie leans back & pulls up a foot & leans one wing over the top of the holding hand & goes to sleep.

How do you like the hairdo on Blackie...? He's been having a great bath & sits in the water with his tail all splayed out....

Next is a cute series of bathing pictures of Blackie from March of '01.

Dec '01 - Blackie just being pretty!

Also Dec '01 - a story more about me than Blackie!

Blackie the green cheek conure is somewhat unpredictible about stepping up out of his cage. Most of the time, he comes to his doorway & steps sweetly onto my waiting index finger & gets big time praise for being a good boy.

Sometimes he grabs a little hard with his beak to make sure that finger is going to be there & sometimes he's a brat & just chomps my finger.

I have noticed that my left index finger seems to be developing a mind of its own...there is a nerve pathway to my brain that has been used too many times....bite/pull away...a learned movement so that the other day, I tried to put my finger up there & when Blackie reached out, I found my finger was jerking itself away from a possible bite.

I told my finger sternly, not to move....poor Blackie....a couple of times of jerking that finger away & he would start biting. That finger just wouldn't listen.

So I used my right index finger & had no problems keeping it steady & in place. My brain had no preconceived fears for the little used right index finger (I'm left handed).

Just thought it was a funny story....because I my left finger just wouldn't stay there. (really!)

On to the next birdy page!
