One night, not too many months after Simon came to live with us, I was lying on the couch, facing Simon's cage, which was right at the end of the couch. I was going through a catalog, and jotting down notes. Simon climbed off his cage, walk over to my notebook, and try to take my pen from me. I placed him on the arm of the chair, give him a parrot toy, and go back to writing. Again and again he came over to try to take my pen. Always I would place him back on the arm of the chair with a new toy.
Finally, he decided more drastic action needed to be taken to get what he wanted. He picked up a little wiffleball toy from the arm of the chair, walked calmly over to stand on my notebook, dropped the ball right in front of me, and then looked at me for a few seconds. Next, he reached over and took the pen out of my hand. Of course, I made the deal with him. How could I refuse! However, he didn't get the whole pen for safety's sake - just the cap, which is the part he loves, anyway.
For Christmas this past year, I wanted to give Simon a stocking full of the toys he loves best - those pen caps. I wrote to many pen companies on the web, telling them about Simon, and asking if I could purchase enough pen caps to fill his stocking. No one could sell me just caps. However, one dedicated and caring employee, Jennifer Brock, of Monk Office Supply went that extra mile to make a little birdy have a very Merry Christmas.
She wrote to me to tell me that she found me a really good price on some Christmas colored pens (white pens with red caps). It was a really good deal, even with the shipping costs. Thank you, Jennifer, from the bottom of a little green parrots heart!
