Abby is such a dear. She is so quiet much of the day, that you'd think she was stuffed. But when it comes time to do the cockatoo dance, watch out. She'll start out just flapping her wings, beak open, crest up, and jumping up and down, and then comes the sound. It is so hilarious to watch. Occasionally, late at night, if I am watching a movie, I will hear Abby start tapping her foot on the perch. It is so funny to see and hear. Crest is usually up, and one foot is firmly tapping on the perch for a minute or so. I'm not sure why she does it, but it is cute.

Abby is a very gentle soul. She only tries to bite if she is being scared. She enjoys the company of the other birds, which, of course is closely monitored, simply because of her size. She is always going walkabout, as we call it, from her cage. We'll hear the fuss the other birds put up, and come running to find Abby advancing on their cages. She gives us this look with a gleam in her eye. What a character! I call her a witch because she is very wicked. :)
Her favorite place to be scritched is under her wings. If you start to pet her, she will raise her wings up so that you can rub her underneath. She lowers her head, and will tuck it under your chin, and just make little sweet, contented sounds.

Umbrella Cockatoos, also known as White Cockatoos, classification Cacatua alba, are found on several islands northwest of New Guinea. It is also numerous in Indonesia. Umbrellas are completely white in color except for yellow under the wings and tail, and a light blue eyering. Umbrellas are not known for their talking ability, although many do talk reasonably well. Cockatoos are known for being cuddly. Most love to be held and scritched and just plain snuggled.
A cockatoo will need a lot of attention. They are intelligent, inquisitive, endearing creatures. They have been likened to having a perpetual toddler in the house.
Cockatoos have very loud voices when they yell, which most seem to do once or twice a day, often at bedtime or after they wake up. I liken Abby's yell to a foghorn! They have a great need to exercise their beaks, and enjoy making kindling on a daily basis. The photo below was a wooden carousel toy one morning, and in the afternoon.....well, you can see for yourself!
